Dreamy Wedding in the Rain at The Barn at Sunset Ranch

Rain on your wedding day. It doesn’t exactly sound ideal does it? While many people dread the thought of rain on their wedding day, we embrace it! We love coming up with creative backup plans which is exactly what we did for Shelby and Chad’s beautiful wedding at The Barn at Sunset Ranch. Some strategic umbrella usage helped us get through the rainy ceremony. Then the rain moved out and the rest of the day went off without a hitch!

A Love Story Begins

Shelby and Chad’s love story started when Chad took Shelby on their first date to his favorite neighborhood bar, conveniently located just across the street from his house. Little did they know that this casual meeting would lead to a lifelong journey of love and togetherness.

Although they are both from Colorado, Shelby and Chad now call Bozeman, Montana, their home. They decided to come back to Colorado to get married so all their family and friends could join them. Their vision was to get married in a mountain town with amazing views. When they found The Barn at Sunset Ranch in Buena Vista, they knew it was the perfect place to tie the knot!

One sweet detail from the day that we really loved is that Shelby’s getting ready robe was made from her mom’s wedding dress. It was such a unique way to honor her mom and give the dress a second life!

Rain on the Horizon

In the days leading up to Shelby and Chad’s wedding, we kept a watchful eye on the weather forecast, which predicted a 95% chance of rain. Shelby and Chad wanted to embrace the beautiful Colorado scenery and enjoy the venue’s outdoor mobile bar by having an outdoor ceremony, so we decided to move forward with that plan. With the looming possibility of rain, our team sprang into action. The day before the wedding, we decided to add a tent to their rental order. We wanted to make sure that we would have a place to hold things in case it rained!

As the big day arrived, the rain seemed to be holding off, filling us with hope for a beautiful outdoor ceremony. However, fate had different plans. Just as we began sending the wedding party down the aisle, the skies opened up, and raindrops started falling.

A Dreamy Ceremony

What’s a wedding without a little bit of unexpected adventure? We quickly came up with a solution: opening umbrellas and sending them down the aisle with each group. We worked out how to alternate who took which umbrella so everyone was covered.

Though some guests got a little wet, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Mid-ceremony, the rain decided to take a break, leaving behind a glistening atmosphere. The result? Dreamy, one-of-a-kind pictures that truly captured the essence of Shelby and Chad’s love. As the clouds moved out, the couple and their guests were treated to beautiful mountain views during the ceremony at The Barn at Sunset Ranch.

Reception at The Barn at Sunset Ranch

After the ceremony, the couple enjoyed a sweet dance on the outdoor patio. They then joined their guests inside the barn for the reception. Shelby and Chad loved the rustic look of The Barn at Sunset Ranch so they wanted to compliment the reception space by choosing decor elements in shades of muted pink and orange.
